Like the other 145 or so Parish Councils in Northumberland, Longframlington Parish Council (LPC) has an important part to play in the life of the community. It aims to represent the community to the various agencies eg District & County Councils, and endeavours to ensure that services from these and other agencies are rightfully carried out. LPC also has sight of local Planning Applications and is able to comment on these to the District Council. From its income, or precept, which makes up a small % of the council tax bill, it can legally spend on services and activities provided by itself. It is also able to support various groups in the immediate and wider community eg Citizens Advice Bureau, Alnwick Playhouse, and to encourage the formation of new groups within the local community. LPC additionally provides and has responsibility for the running of both the village allotments and the cemetery.
Longframlington Parish Council normally meets on the first Wednesday of each month of the year, with the exception of August. Members of the public are welcome to attend the monthly meetings, and may speak during the Public Debate section of the meeting, which is tabled immediately following the formal business. An annual Parish Meeting to which everyone in the Parish is invited, and to which anyone may contribute, is held in May of each year. At this meeting, the PC gives account of its achievements over the previous 12 months through the Chairman's report and will also answer questions and listen to any concerns from members of the public.
